One day in Capri

The ferry from Naples takes around 1 hour and 15 minutes to get to Capri. You will arrive at Marina Grande, the touristic port of the island.

As soon as you arrive, I recommend you to make the boat tour of the island from Marina Grande (18€), where you will see:

  • La statua dello Scugnizzo (the bronze statue of Gennarino, O’ Scugnizzo di Capri is located on a large boulder overlooking the sea. The statue of Gennarino is also called the statue of welcome)

  • La Grotta del Corallo (where you will be able to see corals embedded in the rock walls)

  • La Grotta Bianca (characterized by white stalactites, one of which looks like a statue of the Virgin Mary)

  • L'Arco Naturale (is a rocky structure in the form of an arch, created due to natural causes)

  • Villa Malaparte (an icon of Italian rationalist architecture created by Curzio Malaparte)

  • I Faraglioni (with the boat you will pass under the Love arch. A legend says brings luck to lovers)

  • La Baia di Marina Piccola

  • La Grotta Verde (well-known for the unique green light that filters through the water)

  • Il Faro di Punta Carena (located at the extreme tip of the island, on the high cliff overlooking the open sea)

  • La Grotta Azzurra

The tour includes a stop in front of the Blue Grotto. Here, those who want to enter the cave must get off the boat to get on small rowing boats, the only ones suitable for crossing the narrow entrance to the cave. Entrance to the Grotto is paid separately. It currently costs 14 euros per person. The visit is very short, about 5 minutes. Unfortunately, in case of rough sea is impossible to visit Grotta Azzurra.

After the tour, we took the cablecar from Marina Grande to Capri's center. You will arrive exactly at Piazza Umberto I or Piazzetta, the most important square of the island. There you will also see Torre dell'Orologio and Chiesa di Santo Stefano.

From the center you can walk to Giardini Augusto, where you will have the best view on Faraglioni and where you can taste amazing granita (we recommend the Capri's figs one). From this garden you will also have the possibility to see the Via Krupp (which is currently closed due to the danger of falling rocks).

Via Krupp, is one of the most famous streets on the island of Capri, which connects the historic center of the island with the seaside area of Marina Piccola. The German steel magnate Friedrich Alfred Krupp, was unable to quickly reach Marina Piccola, where his yacht was moored: he therefore bought the entire area and built the road that today takes its name.

From Giardini Augusto you can walk to Belvedere di Tragara, a panoramic terrace on Faraglioni. Where you will also find one of the most luxurious hotel of the island: Hotel Punta Tragara. If you would like to take a long walk rounded by nature, you can walk from Punta Tragara to Arco Naturale (as we did). The walk is quite hard but it is worthwhile because you will see some wonderful views and you will find very few tourists. Another way to get to the arch is to walk from the center (Piazzetta). The walk is much easier but the view is nothing special.

From Arco Naturale we came back to the center and we had lunch. We chose Buonocore, which is a famous confectionery, gelateria and snack bar. Even if is really famous for its ice-cream, we decided to eat something salty. The Caprese sandwich was really good.

After lunch we decided to reach Anacapri by bus. The bus stop is just a few steps from Piazzetta (4€ round trip) and it only takes 10 minutes. We arrived at Piazza Vittoria from which starts Via Giuseppe Orlandi, the pedestrian street that crosses the historic center of Anacapri. Going down Via Orlandi, on the right you will see the Red House. Inside, there is a collection of images of Capri in its traditions and daily habits. Then you will find the Church of San Michele. An octagonal Greek cross church famous for the majolica floor, executed in 1761, in which Adam and Eve are depicted in the Earthly Paradise.

Anacapri is peaceful, quiet. It is nice to walk through its streets and admire the details that characterize the buildings. You will encounter many majolica, some graffiti and a lot of white houses. There are also many shops selling handmade sandals and clothes, a perfect place for shopping if you want to avoid big brands.

After visiting Anacapri, we came back to Capri and we took a walk on Via Camerelle. It is one of the narrow streets of Capri, full of shops, most of them luxury Italian and international brands. It is a beautiful and well-kept road, it is pleasant to walk through it.

To perfectly end our day we went to Capri Rooftop to have an aperitivo. We chose this place because of its amazing view on Faraglioni. We ordered two drinks and they served us some snacks and two finger food: a mini caprese with lemon vinagrete and bread with ricotta anchovies and cherry tomatoes. The price is high for what we got but the stunning views worth a visit.

At the end of the day, we came back to Marina Grande by cablecar and we took the ferry to come back to Naples.
